What the Separator Filter Does
In a rotary screw compressor, the air end discharges a mixture of compressed air and lubricating oil. That mixture passes through the separator tank, where most of the oil drops out by inertia. The remaining oil mist passes through the separator filter element, which captures the fine oil aerosol before it reaches the outlet. A return line at the bottom of the separator element scavenges the accumulated oil back to the sump. When the separator element becomes saturated, differential pressure across it increases — you see higher operating pressure drop, increased oil carry-over downstream, and higher oil consumption. Replace it on schedule.
