Castair I718HC1: 7.5 HP Single-Phase Industrial Air Compressor, 80-Gallon Horizontal Tank

The Castair I718HC1 is a 7.5 horsepower, single-phase industrial reciprocating air compressor on an 80-gallon horizontal ASME tank with the C1 pump configuration, without the factory aftercooler. The aftercooler-equipped version is the I718HC1-S.

The C1 pump runs at 895 RPM and delivers 32.4 CFM free air at 0 PSI, 24.8 CFM at 175 PSI. At 655 lbs and a 64x20x48 inch footprint, this is the lighter of the two 80-gallon horizontal options in the 7.5 HP single-phase series. The horizontal tank configuration suits shops where a lower-profile unit fits better than a vertical tank.

Industrial Cast Iron Pump — C1 Configuration

  • All cast iron construction: Cylinder, head, crankcase — no aluminum
  • Pump speed: 895 RPM
  • Tapered roller bearings: Both ends of crankshaft
  • Precision steel connecting rods: Automotive-type insert bearings
  • Disc and spring valves: Serviceable and reliable under industrial load
  • 4-ring pistons: Better sealing, less oil carryover
  • Centrifugal unloader: Loadless start every cycle

I718HC1 vs. I718HC1-S

The I718HC1 and I718HC1-S are the same compressor. The -S suffix on the I718HC1-S indicates a factory-mounted beltguard aftercooler (#BGAC1M, 35 CFM rated). If you are doing spray painting or moisture-sensitive work, add the aftercooler — either factory-mounted (-S) or as a field-installed option. For general tire service, impact wrenches, and air ratchets where moisture is less critical, the base I718HC1 is appropriate.

When Does a Shop Need This vs. Stepping Up or Down?

Choose the I718HC1 if: You need single-phase power, horizontal tank orientation, want to source your own aftercooler, and your demand fits within 24.8 CFM at 175 PSI.

Step up to I718HC2-S if: You want more CFM (28.1 at 175 PSI) from a slower, quieter C2 pump, or if noise is a factor in your shop.

Step up to 120-gallon if: Tank recovery time between cycles is causing production slowdowns.
