The Castair BV75 is a 3/4" NPT-Female Full Flow Ball Valve specifically rated for use with 5-10HP rotary screw and reciprocating compressors. At the 5-10HP range, you're moving serious CFM through the discharge line, and undersized or restricted valves create back pressure that reduces system output and stresses pump components. The BV75's full-flow design means the internal bore matches the 3/4" pipe diameter — no restriction, no pressure drop through the valve body itself.

Key Features

  • 3/4" NPT Female Threads (Both Ports): Standard NPT female on inlet and outlet — fits 3/4" NPT male fittings throughout
  • Full Flow Ball Design: Internal bore matches 3/4" pipe ID — no constriction through the valve
  • Rated for 5-10HP Rotary Compressors: Designed to handle the flow and pressure demands of compressors in this HP range
  • Quarter-Turn Operation: 90-degree handle from fully open to fully closed — clear, definitive positions
  • Heavy-Duty Commercial Construction: Cast Air quality for industrial-grade compressed air systems

Why Valve Sizing Matters on Rotary Compressors

Rotary screw compressors at 5-10HP run continuously under load. They're not like a reciprocating compressor that cycles on and off — they're pushing air constantly, and anything that restricts discharge flow creates back pressure across the entire system. A full-flow valve at 3/4" keeps the discharge path open. An undersized or restricted-port valve at this flow rate will cost you real CFM and can cause the compressor to run hotter and cycle the high-temp shutdown more frequently. The BV75 is sized for this application from the ground up.

Applications

  • Compressor Discharge Isolation: Install between the compressor outlet and the receiver tank as the primary system shutoff
  • Tank Outlet Valve: Shutoff at the tank outlet to the distribution header
  • Service Isolation: Isolate the compressor for maintenance without depressurizing the entire distribution system (with a check valve in the circuit)
  • Main Header Shutoffs: Zone shutoffs on 3/4" header lines serving multiple branch drops
  • Bypass Lines: Full-flow valve in a compressor bypass circuit

Valve Selection by Compressor Size

  • Under 3HP / Small Tools: 1/4" BV25M or 3/8" BV38 at the tool drops
  • 3-5HP / Multiple Users: 1/2" BV50 on branch lines
  • 5-10HP Rotary or Reciprocating: 3/4" BV75 at the compressor and main header
  • Above 10HP: Contact us — larger header valves and system-specific selection applies
