This is the quieter, slower-running 5HP option in Castair's horizontal lineup: 420 RPM versus the 767 RPM of the C1-equipped models, with identical output of 17.5 CFM at 175 PSI.
The C2 is a Two-stage, V4 cylinder pump rated for 7.5-10HP applications. Running it at 5HP means the pump is operating well within its rated capacity, which shows up in longer service intervals and quieter operation. The trade-off is weight: the C2 adds 100 lbs over the C1 configuration — 700 lbs versus 600 lbs — and the horizontal dimensions change slightly at 64 x 20 x 46 versus 64 x 20 x 48 inches.
This is the base unit — no factory-mounted motor starter. If you have panel-mounted motor protection or a licensed electrician handling the installation with proper overcurrent protection, the base unit is the clean choice.
