The Castair 120H200 is a 120-gallon horizontal ASME air receiver tank rated to 200 PSI. This is the standard large-capacity horizontal storage tank in the Castair lineup, designed for stationary compressor installations where floor space allows horizontal placement. At 24 inches in diameter by 68 inches long, it lies flat on channel supports — the right choice when you have the horizontal floor space but limited ceiling height, or when you are plumbing multiple compressor units into a shared central supply. Weight is 355 lbs empty.

Tank Specifications

  • Capacity: 120 gallons
  • Orientation: Horizontal
  • Tank Dimensions: 24" diameter x 68" length
  • Top Plate Size: 17" x 44"
  • Maximum Working Pressure: 200 PSI
  • Weight: 355 lbs (empty)
  • Construction: Power coded, ASME certified
  • Part Number: 120H200

ASME Certification and Code Requirements

All Castair tanks are ASME certified and power coded. This is not optional for commercial and industrial installations — it is required by most local codes, insurance underwriters, and OSHA for pressure vessels above certain sizes in workplace environments. The ASME stamp means the tank was manufactured to specific material, welding, and inspection standards, and carries a calculated safe working pressure. A non-coded tank may be cheaper; it is also a liability and code violation in most jurisdictions.

Powder Coated Exterior

  • Powder coat finish for corrosion resistance in shop environments
  • Channel-style base supports for horizontal mounting (no legs)
  • Standard connection points for inlet, safety valve, drain, and gauge

Horizontal vs. Vertical: Which Do You Need?

  • 120H200 (Horizontal, $1,755.83): 24"W x 68"L footprint — requires floor space but lower ceiling clearance. Better for multi-compressor manifold installations and when the tank needs to be positioned alongside a wall.
  • 120V200 (Vertical, $2,338.57): 30" diameter x 45" height — takes up less floor area but needs more ceiling height. The 17"x44" top plate is the same as the horizontal version. Vertical tanks cost more due to leg fabrication and structural requirements.
  • 120HD200 (Horizontal with larger top plate, $2,305.53): Same 24"x68" tank body, but with a 17"x85" top plate — the extended top plate accommodates duplex compressor mounting with two pump/motor sets sitting on top of the tank. This is the duplex version of the 120H200.

What's in the Box

  • 1x Castair 120-gallon horizontal ASME air receiver tank, 200 PSI rated
  • Channel base supports (integral)

Note: Safety valve, pressure gauge, drain valve, and inlet check valve are sold separately. See Castair accessory components for compatible fittings.

When Does a Shop Need a 120-Gallon Horizontal Tank

A 120-gallon tank makes sense for 7.5-15 HP compressor systems where you need enough storage volume to handle intermittent high-demand tools without the compressor cycling constantly. The 200 PSI rating gives you headroom above the typical 175 PSI cutout on industrial two-stage compressors. Go horizontal when you have ceiling constraints (shop with low mezzanine, for example) or when you are running two compressors and want to manifold them into a single tank — the channel base makes it easy to position the tank against a wall and run piping overhead. If you have the ceiling height, the vertical 120V200 saves floor space.
