Copper is mandatory on the hot discharge side — compressor discharge air can reach 200-350°F, which eliminates nylon, rubber, and most plastic tubing as options for these connections.
Where 1/2" Copper Tubing Is Used on Compressor Systems
- Discharge tubes: The run between the compressor head outlet and the tank check valve. This air is hot and copper handles it without issue
- In-tank check valve connections: Castair's CTD series compression inlet check valves (CTD1212, CTD1234, CTD1238) mate directly with 1/2" copper tubing
- Aftercooler connections: Routing compressed air to and from Castair aftercooler units
- Inter-stage connections: On two-stage compressors, the inter-cooler tubing between stages is typically 1/2" or larger copper

Installation Notes
- Form a short coil or offset bend where the tubing connects to the compressor head — the head vibrates during operation and a straight rigid connection will fatigue at the fitting
- For compression connections, use Castair's CNS12 (compression nut and sleeve) or equivalent fittings rated for your system pressure
- Castair compression adaptors (CA1212) and elbows (CE1212) are available for routing the tubing where direct straight connections are not possible
